A Peaceful Civil Demonstration March will be staged tomorrow (Wednesday 31st July 2019) at 8am from Kone Tigers Oval to the Parliament House.

The March will be led by the NCD’s Family and Sexual Violence Action Committee (FSVAC) in collaboration with the Human Rights Defenders Association of PNG (HRDA).

NCD FSVAC Manager Ruth Beriso says the march to be staged tomorrow morning is a message to the Government that enough is enough on violence against women and children in the country, as well as immediate abolish of compensation practices.

Beriso says a petition will be presented to the Government to take action on some of the national agendas including;

• Taking appropriate measures to deal with violence against women and children
• Increase police manpower especially in FSVAC
• Human Rights Commission to be set up to deal with human right issues
• National Gender Policy to be implemented, among other issues.

The petition also indicates collaboration between Government and sub national levels to address social issues especially achieving the 2050 Vision on zero tolerance on violence in the country.

The theme of the March is “NO COMPENSATION, WE DEMAND JUSTICE FOR OUR WOMEN AND GIRLS.

The Demonstration March Organizers are calling on NCD city residents to join the peaceful walk and end violence in the country.
