What started out as fire and brimstone social media politics, focused on exposure and the revealing the truth; regardless of the consequences; has matured before our eyes.
A newcomer in the political scene with his career less than three seasons old, Bryan Kramer is learning and evolving at speeds of light years. Whatever opinions we may have of him, none of us can deny his influence in politics today.
Often at the receiving end of sarcastic comments in parliament by the previous government, during the last session, Kramer gave out one of his own with shrewd class to a questioning Belden Namah.
With all due respect to Hon. Namah, his act of storming a supreme court in session was the single most devastating act towards our sovereignty by any individual. An equal second is the recent attack on our parliament by disciplined forces. There can be no reason or justification - it was treason.
Kramer was right in reminding Namah of his actions. No one must ever forget the day our nation was defiled. What I particularly liked about Kramer's rebuttal was he further explained that his role was to ensure that this never happens again.
State institutions must be free from the whims of political ego and influence. This was the crux of Kramer's message and he is spot on. No matter how justified we believe our intentions are, we must bow before the majesty of the rule of law.
Now that Kramer is the Police Minister, we cannot push or expect him to cut corners.
His focus on improving conditions of the police force like housing, and ensuring that processes are followed and respected in terms of appointments and investigations speaks volumes. Firstly it pays respect to the police force, and encourages that the wrongs can only be made right by strengthening the current systems of governance.
I am reminded of a lawyer who said, "it is better to let a hundred guilty men to go free, than to put one innocent man in prison."
The day we surrender our ideals of justice to be influenced by our humanity, is the day we compromise the promise of a sovereign society to exist.
We have seen Bryan Kramer the activist. Bryan Kramer the opposition fighter. Now we are seeing Bryan Kramer the government minister. His lack of desperation to cut corners and to feed the public sentiment speaks volumes.
As he comes of age, will he be a force to be reckoned with? The short answer is: Yes.
