A high-level delegation from the World Bank paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for National Planning, Hon Richard Maru.
The visit today was part of the Energy and Extractives sector high
level mission led by Mr Ranjit Lamech, World Bank Director for
Infrastructure in the East Asia Region. The aim of the visit was to
discuss key priorities of the new government in the energy and
extractives sector. This is ongoing support to GoPNG for these
particular sectors and the expected outcome is strengthened World
Bank-GoPNG engagement.
Minister Maru highlighted that the PNG
Government’s current immediate priorities include the Momase Highway
from Watarais to Madang, the Gulf-Southern Highlands Highway, Economic
Coffee Roads for the Highlands Region and projects to improve the
profitability of PNG Power and turn PNG Power from a loss-making State
Owned Enterprise to a profitable business entity.
