The Government of Papua New Guinea today through it's Sport Ministry announced that it will award incentives for its athletes from the 2019 Samoa Pacific Games.
Only athletes who won medals will be awarded for their efforts.

Vice Minister for Sport Hon. Wesley Raminai with the presence of PNG Sport Foundation CEO Peter Tsiamalili Junior said athletes who won gold will receive K5000 while silver medalists will receive K2500 and bronze medalists will get K1000 each.
While Minister Raminai praised Team PNG efforts he said the experience of trailing our arch rivals in the first week and beating them in the second must be avoided.

"With proper coaching and good sports psychology athletes are being taught before competitions not to focus on the result but divert all their energies to the processes.
The outcomes if the processes which includes our preparations are right.
The Marape-Stevens Government is also following a similar process in what we would like to do for our country in many other sectors." Raminai said.

In addition Tsiamalili said in future incentives given to athletes will be tied down so that it should not be seen as a grant rather an access to further development for the athletes, code and sport as a whole.
Raminai said that the Ministry of Sport with the PNG Sports Foundation in consultation with the PNG Olympic Committee and the National Federation will be doing a review of the Samoa 2019 Games.
