Hon. Powes Parkop, LLB, LLM
Governor of NCD

Today we created history. We held for the first time the National Independence Parade, an event that will become an iconic patriotic event for the future. An event that will honour our country, our leaders past and present, our unsung heroes, our achievements and progress.
We had an outstanding parade led by our security personnels and school students. We sang our National Anthem with all the school children of NCD in the presence of our Hon. Prime Minister James Marape.

I am humbled that we managed to pull through such a momentous event in short notice. All credit goes to our Amazing Port Moresby team, National Events Team and NCDC Management for creating this moment in history that will be remembered 30 years down memory lane and beyond!
I thank Prime Minister Hon James Marape for making this event the third iconic national event for our anniversary celebrations moving forward and I think him too for his bold and profound declarations to make our country economically independent, making it safe for our women and girls and his commitment to leave no child behind in our quest for development and prosperity.
We, in the Capital City, are committed and in 100% support to manifest this vision by making our city safe, resilient, healthy and peaceful for our nation and for our people to realize the Prime Ministers pronouncements.

This is the 1st time that we managed to do a National Independence Parade with our 8th Prime Minister. Next year, will be greater, bigger and we will invite our veteran ex- members of parliament, ex-service men and women, awardees of Queens and National medals, sports men and women and Civil Society, churches and everyone in our city.
One day even the Prime Minister and myself will be part of a parade, from this moment of history that we created today, honouring whoever the Prime Minister will be from any of these young children standing here today. Who knows.
Thank you Port Moresby. Thank you Papua New Guinea. Happy 44th Independence Celebrations.
May God Bless our City and our Country Papua New Guinea.
