HIRI MOALE FESTIVAL BOOSTED WITH K100, 000 SUPPORT FROM STEAMSHIPS TRADING COMPANY

The 2019 Hiri Moale Festival today received a major financial boost, thanks to Steamships Trading Company for the K100,000 cheque to host the renowned festival.

Steamships Chief Operating Officer Rupert Gray who presented the cheque over to the Motu-Koita Assembly Chairman Dadi Toka Junior says Steamships Company had associated with the Motu-Koitabuans
from its first days of operation spanning for over a century and it is important for the company to continue that tradition.

He says the Hiri Trade had produced a lot of seafarers that had sailed with Steamships over the years as they had recruited heavily from the seven Motuan villages.

He says as a corporate citizen that has been here for a long time, it is important for them to recognize the traditions and carry on supporting in sustaining these traditions.

Mr Dadi Toka Junior while thanking Steamships for the support alluded on Mr Gray’s remarks on the relationship between the company and the Motu-Koita people, adding the support will ensure the Hiri voyage legacy is commemorated to ensure it is remembered to this day.

The Hiri Moale Festival Hiri Moale festival celebrates the culture of the Motu-Koitabu people who forged unique connections with other tribes and people through seafaring and trade.

The festival which also holds the Hiri Hanenamo quest will this year see 14 female contestants vying for the Hiri Queen title.

The event is scheduled for the 21st to the 22nd of September 2019 at Ela Beach in Port Moresby.
